Cllr Toye has been a Town Councillor since July 2015. She grew up in Gillingham and then moved away from 1992 – 2003 to Bournemouth, Norwich and then Weybridge in Surrey, Living away from Dorset made her realise how lucky she was to call Gillingham home. She returned to Gillingham with two young sons aged 2 and 4 and, after a period on low income as a single mother, later married.
For many years Cllr Toye juggled many part-time roles to fit around family, until 2014 when she joined Neal’s Yard Remedies. She now works full time in the operations team with responsibility for stock and warehousing for the e-commerce channels. She enjoys working for a local manufacturer that takes our environment so seriously, as that is a cause very close to her heart.
Cllr Toye raises money for local charities where possible, whether that be jumping on treadmills for our local Fire service or taking part in a 5 day banger rally through the Alps with her husband, in aid of the Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance and St Marys Gillingham Scout Group .
Cllr Toye is also a flood Warden for Gillingham, an administrator on the Gillingham and Local Areas Facebook page, and once a year serves behind the bar at the local British Legion Beer Festival.

I am the mother of two daughters and work for a local estate agent as a Lettings Manager. This is my first term on the town council after being elected on in May 2024 local elections, and I am very much looking forward to the next 5 years.
As well as working full time, bringing up my daughters and now being on the council, I also play for the local ladies Rugby team. We started in the development league and quickly moved into a competitive local league that we dominated, helping us achieve our goal of being promoted 2 years in a row.
When I can I also like to take part in events like the Three Peak Challenge, Ultra Challenges etc to raise money for charity. I aim to do more challenges like this over the coming years and to be far more involved in our local community, where I can.

My family moved to Gillingham in September 2005 as part of my planning to retire from the British Army, which I left in 2009. My wife and I have two sons and two granddaughters. Both our boys were educated at Gillingham School, although my youngest son went on to Yeovil College for his last two years of secondary education.
After my 29-year military career I was lucky enough to be offered a senior consultant’s role in a global civil engineering company based in London. During nine years in commercial consultancy, I worked on various built-environment projects in the UK and overseas; I specialised in delivering security and resilience to public and private spaces, with a particular emphasis on crime prevention through environmental design.
As well as being a Town Councillor I am also a local magistrate on the Avon & Somerset bench, making decisions that affect vulnerable children, supporting separated parents in making sensible arrangements for their children and helping prevent domestic abuse. I was appointed a Justice of the Peace on 26 March 2019.

Past Mayor of Gillingham 2016 – 2017 / 2019 – 2021 / 2023 – 2024
Since joining the Gillingham Town Council in 2015, I’ve worked diligently on initiatives that promote inclusivity—most notably as one of the founders of Dementia Friendly Gillingham.
I have been very proud to have served as Mayor 4 times and it has been a great honour to have held that position and been able to promote and help our town during my time in office.
Previously serving as Senior Estates and Facilities Director for NHS in London has equipped me with essential skills in leadership and strategic oversight. My roles extend into various charitable organizations across North Dorset where I hold positions such as Chairman.
I believe strongly in empowering youth; therefore, I’m actively involved as a local school governor and partner with youth groups within our town. My efforts are directed towards sustainable development practices that lead to thriving green spaces recognized by Green Flag status while enhancing biodiversity.
As part of business coalitions dedicated to advancing economic prosperity in Gillingham and North Dorset, I’m excited about shaping a vibrant future for our community through collaboration and innovation.
